Pillar to Post

1990 - Present

“If someone is moved from Pillar to Post, they are moved repeatedly from one place or position to another, usually in a hurried or disorganized way so that they suffer.”

“From nature
From nowhere
From one’s heart
From pillar to post
From pole to pole
From rags to riches
From scratch”   - From Collins Dictionary

Consider the French version: “Chercher midi a quatorze heures”
*to complicate things
*to do things the hard way

However, when I landed on the title for what has become an ongoing series, I was using it to mean, looking for something in the wrong places and so not finding what you seek. It seemed to describe my work process. I don’t start out with a fixed idea of resolution. The finished work is a stopping point on a continuum. It’s surrendering to the unknowable which gives birth to the magic moments of discovery.
