Plaster Reliefs

2016 - Present

These heavily encrusted “Matter Works“ are made of colored plaster, raw pigments, graphite and waxes on wood. Their surface fissures and eruptions achieve their physicality through hand and adaptive tool manipulation, heat, water and time.

The work embodies and is inspired by a passion for the natural material world; stone, wood, water, metal and light but do not seek to imitate, depict, or narrate any one of these. Rather they are a distillation of memory set in motion, gaining momentum, and finding final form through physical gesture combined with the inherent qualities of the materials themselves.
